Uganda setting the tone for the Global Climate Strike Mobilisation.

Green Festival 2019

On Sunday 1st, September, thousands of children and their parents thronged the Kololo Airstrip Independent Grounds for the Annual Green Festival Uganda which also doubled as the 1st Climate Strike Action for the African Continent.

As this new generation expands the horizons of possibility, these young people in Uganda just set the tone for a Global Climate Strike that will amplify the call for Africa and the rest of the world to break ties with the fossil fuel industry which is fueling the climate crisis. And I can’t help but get the feeling that it’s only going to get better from here!

On September 20th-27th, millions of people of all ages around the world will walk out of their classes, jobs, and homes as part of a Global Climate Strike. There are already over 80 Climate Strikes on the map in Africa. Join one near you now, or sign up to host one where you live.

We are seeing a new generation emerge who are owning their moral authority, speaking courageously and demanding justice. Moments like this are good moments for reflection. Millions of people don’t take mobilize by accident. It is a sign of how far our movement has come in this fight.
