Mums,dads,as-if mums , absentee dads, uncles, aunties , siblings, joy riders, green cadres, environmental lovers all picked a child or two and made their way to Kololo many of them dressed in something Green. I don’t know whether its the pistol pressure from our little green hands or our message of ownership of the mantle of environmental stewardship is beginning to sink in the parents as well. Either way it was a joy to see an army of Green at this years GREEN FESTIVAL UGANDA.
The journey we started on the 24th of May 2012 in Yumbe district in the West Nile region of Uganda is beginning to take shape. Uganda’s Little Hands have truly gone Green. We gave out tree seedlings until they ran out with children and adults alike still craving for them.
We are now set to embark on a massive seedling tracking campaign . We keep getting ardent requests from the kids to go see their trees and how they are growing. Now we are taking it up a notch with a national competition to take and draw a picture of ones tree as it is to date. The Little Green Hands Caravan will therefore soon be visiting a home and school near you. The future of our environment lies in our children.
The sight of the Chimpanzee mascots dancing and having fun with the Green Festival revelers was an awesome joy to watch and a keen reminder that nature, wildlife and humanity need to co-exist in a healthy rich Green environment.
They mascots complemented the Zoo animals that included the Ostrich, Baby python, Leopard, Tsavo Cat, Lion, Monkeys, crested crane , etc.
So from Green modeling to swimming, football to bouncy castles, drawing and art to Green aerobics, there was an activity for everyone. We hope to do this again on Sun December 14th 2014 when we close off oir Uganda’s Little Hands Go Green year with our larger than life Green Xmas Party.
See you then but in the mean time Think Green and Act Green!!!!
History would condemn me if I did not thank my amazing team that helped put the entire Green Festival production together: Sam the Superstar Captain, Camila the Superstar Diva, Weps Frank my dreadlocked Rasta Man, Musilamu , Jaguar,Geofrey,Ibra, Kato, Andrew Muts, Teacher Martin, Teacher Alice , Teacher Frances, Carol , Michelle and Mariella , Micheal and Marlyn , Aunt Jovita and Dani-k , the PRESS, the teachers and schools, ,the parents of our Green Superstars, Our Little Green hands army and of course our HATERS.
